Melanie B. Lewis is an associate with Berg Hill Greenleaf & Ruscitti, LLP whose practice emphasizes the representation of public and private entities and individuals in the litigation of a wide variety of claims in federal and state courts. Ms. Lewis has experience litigating numerous civil rights, constitutional, employment discrimination and land use claims in both federal and state district courts. In addition to practicing at the district court level, Ms. Lewis enjoys appellate work, having briefed several appeals to state and federal appellate courts and having argued before the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. She has lectured on legal issues confronting local governments, employment issues relevant to local governments, and prisoner civil rights litigation.
Ms. Lewis is admitted to practice in all courts in Colorado, the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is a member of the Colorado Bar Association and the Colorado Women's Bar Association.
Ms. Lewis earned her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1992. Following graduation, she worked as a copy editor at a daily newspaper in eastern Tennessee until she enrolled in the University of Colorado School of Law at Boulder. While in law school, Ms. Lewis served as the editor-in-chief of the University of Colorado Law Review and received the Dufford & Brown legal writing award and the Courtland H. Peterson leadership award.
